DCM Tech, based in Minnesota, is a supplier of rotary surface grinders with decades of experience. The company offers a range of products for countless applications and has recently begun to expand into the field of additive manufacturing. Here, they explain why they turned to 3D printing and how they can provide value to users of the technology.

DCM is a designer and manufacturer of precision rotary surface grinders in the United States. We have been a business and family business since 1975. Today, the founder of the company still stops to say good morning to all of us most days, and his son is now our president. We are proud of their active participation in daily operations.

Our equipment is designed by our in-house engineering team. We manufacture most of the components in the factory and assemble, configure and test here. I think the cool thing about DCM is that it is a small company with less than 40 employees, many of whom have been working in the company for more than 30 years.

Our core is an OEM enterprise, but as you can see in this interview, it is our service and attention to each customer that makes us unique.

With the development of the additive manufacturing market, we are seeing an increasing demand for recycling and re-repair of building boards. Many new customers and potential customers we have recently worked with have either resurfaced these boards externally, milled out the excess material, or used other methods. These processes are usually slow and costly, especially on misprinted plates where additional material needs to be removed. By using our precision grinders and the right combination of abrasives for customer materials, we have proven that we can exponentially accelerate this process.

What really sets DCM apart from other machine manufacturers is our internal engineering, technical and service teams. We treat every customer/potential customer as if they are our only customer. The team first jointly determines whether our machine is suitable for the application. Then, we provide free sample grinding and part identification to show customers the results of their own parts. If they decide to continue using the DCM machine, they will be taken care of by a dedicated technical expert who will assist in the purchase, installation of the machine, training of the operator and continue to be a direct point of contact.

We provide a full range of rotary surface grinders, the table size ranges from 18"-48" and the motor ranges from 10HP to 50HP to suit various parts sizes and customer needs. These machines can be equipped with parts detection sensors, machine management robots, customer data interfaces, and custom internal programming options according to the unique needs of each company.

Because we have been in the grinding business for a long time, we have experience in handling hundreds of different materials, abrasives and parts. We use these experiences and the partnerships we have established over the years to help our customers find a solution that suits them before buying machines.

The DCM team also provides free sample grinding of potential customers' own materials. This allows us to show them the validated results and help determine the baseline process, including the abrasive formulation, feed and speed, cycle time, and other grinding parameters for their specific application.

Today, we have seen the greatest demand for our grinders in recycling and reconditioning build plates. As the manufacturing aspect of additive manufacturing begins to grow, we anticipate that more precision grinding will be required in the finishing of these production parts.

We currently provide services to customers worldwide. Today, most of our customers are located in North America, but our international business continues to grow.
