Darien Library seeks a full-time custodian. This individual covers all public and staff spaces, ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness and organization. Reporting to the Building Engineer, the Custodian is self-motivated and has the ability to work with a team of outsourced cleaners and Library staff members on a frequent basis.

· Sanitization of all public and staff spaces throughout the day.

· Clean, restock, and sanitize all bathrooms hourly while the Library is open.

· Cleaning and maintaining carpets and hard surface floors by vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping floors.

· Place orders for cleaning supplies and stock toilet tissue, hand towels, and hand soap.

· Respond to staff requests for cleaning assistance throughout the day.

· Assist the staff with deliveries and room set ups.

· Must be punctual and committed to maintaining the Library’s standards of excellence.

· Ability to follow specific instructions and take direction.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Approachable and maintains strong working relationships with staff.

· High School or GED preferred

· Previous professional cleaning experience required

· Strong verbal and written communication skills

· Basic computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Outlook

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

· Normal Hours of Work: Monday – Thursday from 3 to 11 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

· Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

· Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling.

· Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching.

· Ability to use a snow thrower; shoveling and salting walkways and staircases.

· Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals.

· Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

· Ability to use tools and equipment, including box cutters.

Begins at $52,500 and is commensurate with experience. Includes a competitive benefits package that includes pension, health plan, and paid vacation and sick time.
