We just took a look at the Hart cordless buffers. As both brands target the DIY consumer market, we thought we’d weigh in with our thoughts.
The Worx 20V Orbital Buffer, the newest addition to the Power Share battery platform, is a single-speed buffer that can provide 3,000 RPM of surface polishing power. It rotates and oscillates simultaneously, keeping away from a consistent movement pattern and thus eliminating swirl marks from your high-gloss finish.
The kitted 20V 2.0Ah Power Share battery provides the Worx Orbital Buffer with enough power to run for up to 45 minutes on a charge.
Worx seems to have designed the Orbital Buffer for comfortable, easy use. First, a 10-inch pad covers a good amount of surface area at once. Next, a full-wrap handle with a textured grip lets you maneuver and grip the orbital buffer from almost any angle while you work. Finally, at just 6.8 lbs, this buffer won’t take a lot out of you while you use it.
The Worx WX856L 20V 10-inch orbital buffer/polisher kit has everything you should need to get started—except polish. It includes a 2.0 Ah 20V battery and a one-hour charger. You also get both a washable elastic application bonnet and a polishing bonnet. Worx also covers their 20V orbital buffer with a three-year limited warranty as well as a 30-day guarantee.
As we mentioned earlier, one clear comparison opportunity seems to exist between Worx and Hart Tools. While Worx currently only has this 10-inch model available, Hart Tools has both a 10-inch orbital buffer and a 6-inch model. Let’s look at how they compare:
Between the two you can see the Worx features a bit more attention to the handle design. Speed is just about equal—and really, we’d need to test both to see how they do once you apply some pressure while polishing. The Hart Tools polisher—by the specs at least—weighs a full 2 pounds less than the Worx WX856L buffer. That could be due to any number of things—but it makes us wonder about the brushed motor differences.
Finally, you have some key differences between tool availability and kit options. For example, Hart Tools gives you a 6-inch buffer/polisher option for $35. Worx remains a one-trick pony with the 10-inch model representing its only foray into the world of polishing and buffing. On the other side, Worx offers a kitted version of this tool with a 2Ah battery and a 1-hour charger. Hart only sells its buffers as bare tools. Both brands have a very wide array of available tools, so that’s more or less a wash.
The Worx 20V 10-inch cordless polisher is available as either a bare tool or as part of a kit. Worx does well at providing both bare and kitted versions of most of its tools. It lets you grab a single kit with one or two included 20V batteries and use them with their 35+ other DIY and lawn and garden tools. For example, if you already have the Worx 2 x 20V lawn mower, you now have plenty of batteries to pick up some bare tools.
