HOLLAND TWP. — Tuesday morning saw multiple employees from Tennant Co. loading several industrial-size floor scrubbers into a semi-truck.

The truck, labeled "Gateway Mission," will deliver the machines to a home in need, as one of Holland's largest nonprofits with an expanding campus on 24th Street.

Gateway, formerly Holland Rescue Mission, has more space to clean than most nonprofits, making the organization a great partner when Tennant Co. — a manufacturer of floor scrubbers and other cleaning solutions — has machines to spare.

In total, Tennant donated three floor scrubbers and one floor polisher, according to administrative coordinator Jodie Erdman. One of the machines was a customer return from 2020 that got lost in the shuffle, while others have their own stories.

"It depends on the machine, but they weren't so much displaced as looking for the right spot, and now they'll have good homes," Erdman said.

Erdman is also head of the company's Helping Hands Committee, which organizes community give-back opportunities. Each employee at Tennant is given four hours of volunteer time each year.
