CAMPGROUND RESERVATIONS CANCELED FOR TWO LOCATIONS - KQEN News Radio

All campground reservations at the Diamond Lake and Broken Arrow campgrounds have been canceled for the weekend of June 4th due to the volume of snow still on the ground in that area.

Chris Bentley of the Umpqua National Forest said while the snowpack is needed to mitigate the otherwise drought-stricken area, staff recognize the inconvenience and disappointment this might cause to those counting on being able to camp that weekend. Bentley said all reservation fees will be refunded, and people with reservations in those two areas for that weekend should receive notifications from www.recreation.gov.

Bentley said with the amount of snow still on the ground, RVs, trailers, and other large vehicles would not be able to safely navigate these campground areas. Also, service people needing to assess water systems and other amenities normally offered at these campgrounds haven’t been able to start their work yet, because the ground is still snowbound.

Reservations for the following weekend, June 10th, will now be the earliest available campground reservations at all reservation sites in the Diamond Lake and Broken Arrow campground areas. Bentley said staff will be assessing conditions weekly. For those with canceled reservations previously scheduled for June 4th, the UNF does offer first come-first serve camping opportunities at many campgrounds in the area including sites at Little River and Steamboat Falls. Many other first come-first serve campgrounds can be found to the south on the Tiller Ranger District as well.

Additional reservation sites are still available in many areas around the Umpqua National Forest for the weekend of June 4th. Check out www.recreation.gov to learn about available camping opportunities.
